What is an AGM Leisure Battery?

An AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) leisure battery is a type of lead-acid rechargeable battery designed for recreational vehicle (RV) and marine applications. Here are some key features of AGM leisure batteries: 

• Construction: They use absorbed glass mat separators between the lead plates instead of a liquid electrolyte solution. The glass mat is saturated with the electrolyte, which is immobilized and cannot spill or leak. 
• Maintenance-free: AGM batteries are sealed and do not require periodic addition of water or electrolyte, making them maintenance-free and spill-proof. 
• Deep cycle capability: They are designed to be deep cycle batteries, meaning they can be discharged and recharged repeatedly without significant degradation, making them suitable for RV and marine applications where batteries are frequently cycled. 
• High discharge rate: AGM batteries can provide high discharge currents, which is beneficial for starting engines or powering high-demand electrical loads.

AGM batteries need a  slightly higher charging voltage than standard leisure batteries, this makes them a great choice for solar powered systems as solar panels are capable of delivering the voltage AGM batteries require.
